My Hair, My Way

Oils

Posted on: July 17, 2008

Oils help seal in moisture. One can add it in hair grease, pre shampoo treatments, hot oil treatments, relaxers, and conditioners. Some can be used on the body as well.

Back in the day, I would always mix Castor oil into my hair grease. I adopted this from my aunt. Without knowing the reason for her doing that, I did noticed better hair growth. Today I’m a lover of Shea butter oils. I still use hair grease, mainly after a wash (when my hair seems to soak up moisture), but now I mix it with shea butter oils and the results are the same.

My last relaxer, I sealed my hair with olive oil. Doing that helps protects the hair against the chemicals, especially the ends. I even mixed a little olive oil in the relaxer. However, this slows down the relaxer process. If you want the hair straighter, you may want to let the relaxer sit a few minutes longer. (Please use good judgement).
